Luckily I upgraded and bought the extended plan...added an extra 4 yrs 48k when the factory 5 yr expired. It's my wife's truck and she hauls the kids in it. It's been great until now with regards to repairs (religious oil changes every 3000 and new tires) and we were hoping to hang on to it for another 2 years. It's been to disney 3 times and myrtle beach 3 times along with countless day trips. I'd hate to trade it in for a new one considering the new LTZ is about 10 grand more than this one was. Hopefully the damage is minimal and the repair can be done.

Wow. For once our burb gave us a break! I do not have that issue. It doesn't drink any where near 1 quart/1K miles... And it runs pretty smooth with what seems to be its normal power... Sorry to all of you with this major afm prob. The only thing wrong with ours is that one of those afm lifters sorta wore out and squeaks/ticks slightly... Only had check engine light for the recent bad coil pack and when napa gave us the previous style wheel bearing with the old sensor in it, that really screwed up the abs, stabili track, traction control, and the 4wd... other than that no other check engine lights... hey, for once, a happy moment

Hi JayG,

I am happy to hear you have a GM technician friend who can assist you! I am sorry to hear though that this has occurred. Please keep us posted on the result.

Worked fine the whole week then this past Saturday while stuck in traffic on the George Washington Bridge of all places it did it again but was now bogging down as well. Cleared itself up after about 20 minutes. When we got home I researched it and saw countless forums relating to the AFM issues. I got up this am and fired it up and saw that only the CK engine light was on. I took it to auto zone who ran the diag for free. Code said the #4 was misfiring. I went back home and pulled the plug and saw it was drenched in oil. Now I'm lucky enough to have a good friend who is a GM tech so I will be bringing it to him at the dealer tomorrow to see what's what. Hoping the issue can be fixed without an overhaul. Good thing about having a friend at the dealer is that he won't bandaid the problem to ride out the warranty. Let's see what happens. And by the way...mine also burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so.

Default My 2007 Tahoe and the Dishonest Chevrolet Tech

I started having problems back in 2011 when my 2007 was still under warranty. It had roughly 90K miles on it at the time It was running rough, check engine lights came on/went off and so on. Before the warranty expired I took it in to the Chevy Dealership which happens to be the National Dealer of the Year for several years in a row. Jim Glover Chevrolet in Tulsa, OK.

They couldn't find anything but told me even if it goes out of warranty and the issue creeps up later, it would be covered...

fast forward to 2012, same issues and still they couldn't find it. but every time I brought it in they had a new idea... So between 2012 and 2014 They replaced my throttle body, O2 sensor, all my plugs and wires and maybe a couple more small things... Still ISSUES!

In fact, it's getting worse! For years I've had rough idles, loss in engine power and about a qt of Oil burning up every 1000 miles or so but now it constant! I finally got it in when it was acting up and guess what? It's the dreaded AFM issue. Oil is dripping into #1 spark plug and causing the misfire. I've gotten the error of a misfire for years but it's never on long enough to register in the computer so Chevy has never been able to read it. until now that is...

The bad news, they won't cover it because I'm so far outside of my warranty... The warranty that existed back when I originally brought the car in several times! Even though they told me it would be covered! Is it my fault they couldn't find the issue until now? No!

Here is the great part! the tech at the dealership offered to clear the code and hide the issue for me so I could trade it in at his dealership and promised he wouldn't tell the sales guys about it! He said he had done that for other customers as well.

well, maybe some people would be OK with that but I'm more of an honest person than he is I guess. So I'm stuck with a dead engine in an otherwise great truck. I can't trade it, sell it and I don't have the $3000+ to fix it.

What can I do? Well the good news is I have a loud voice. I am a pastor of a good sized church in Tulsa, OK. I am also the owner of a audio/video production company that was voted best in 2013 for the Tulsa area.

I professionally make viral videos that go to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and alike and I have a very large audience.

I'm sure Chevy wouldn't like everyone hearing that their Dealer of the Year is telling their customers to LIE and try to force them into buying something new.

I'm going to give them the chance to make this right. They can fix my engine as if it were under warranty as I was originally promised and deal with "Kevin" the lying and cheating technician at Jim Glover Chevrolet "the national dealer of the year"

If they don't make it right, they will be bombarded with a new "The TRUTH about Chevy" viral video campaign that I will produce. It is bound the make people second guess Chevy for now on...

ps. If Chevrolet is reading this and wondering if I am for real you can go to my website at www.MyMediaWorks.net

I look forward to hearing from you

Has GM resolved the AFM issues?

I have a few buddies with chev 2007 trucks with AFM andperformance /gas mileage issues. I have a 2004 z71 1500, and I get superiorperformance and gas mileage to them. Sounds to me GM has gone in reverse chasing bad money with good money. I am still driving my z71 @145000 miles because I don’t have faith in GM standing behind their product. I once communicated with GM and sent a list of 10 individuals with identical trunks to include vin # and contact information, and they broke off communication. I would like to keep my vehicles to 200000 miles. I just don’t know what to buy now. I guess I will try a Ford.

IN2PRO thanks for that lead. I don't think anything I do will hurt GM's feelings. I just wish there was a truck builder that I could have confidence to build a half ton truck to last 200K miles and perform properly. nothing out there excites me at this time.

Not to mention the recent Honda Odyssey recall and I think one of the S. Korean cars was recalled recently because a control arm might rust and fall off.
