Default Help

I had my engine rebuilt 9k miles ago. The mechanic ok'd me to do my own oil changes as long as I keep track and I have been. I took it easy during the break in process and I still am taking it easy. I've noticed that in the 5k within oil changes I've had to put 2 qts at 2 separate times then when I did the oil change only 2.5 qts come out. Seems like a lot of oil burning for a rebuilt motor. Also, the oil change I did a couple days ago I didn't realize oriellys gave me high mileage. I'm supposed to take this to the mechanic in 1000 miles so he can monitor it. Will he be able to tell that there's high mileage oil instead of just the regular 5-30?

How much oil is acceptable to be burning?

Thanks in advanced

Absolutely not (and the HM oil might actually perform a bit better)

on a new engine - none.
Which engine is this?
My V8 has 63k and it doesn't burn any.
My old 4.3 didn't burn any at 200k

Maybe he didn't actually rebuild it.

I believe "high mileage" oil is primarily a marketing ploy. Most of those state 75K miles or more, and all 6 of my vehicles have more than that (I've got 3 with more than 200K miles).

In fact, the last container I purchased states something like "all mileages" like the manufacturer wanted to consolidate UPCs/SKUs.

However, your oil usage or oil leakage is high. Your rings should've been fully seated months ago. Have you checked for leakage?

Often yes.
But Project Farm tested some, and did find some differences.
