Hello everyone. My family and I are on a road trip from Nevada to Kansas and our Suburban is having an issue.

The Suburban is a 2008 5.3 L V8.

We’re going 80 mph and the oil pressure gauge runs at about 60 psi. The check engine light is on and whenever I take my foot off of the gas there’s a fluttering sound and the oil pressure drops to 40 psi and then goes back up to 60 psi. It also causes a slight drag on the motor and it drops about 100-200 RPMs. Could this be the switch between V4 and V8? (Feature where the car shuts off 4 cylinders to save gas while coasting)

Yeah, it could be cylinder deactivation issues. Can you have someone run an OBD II scan on your vehicle?

BTW, 40-60 PSI while at speed is very normal O/P so dont let that bother you. Whats the oil pressure at idle while hot?

Yea, we’re gonna have someone check. And the idle pressure is 40 psi. The only odd thing about the oil pressure is that when we hear that sound, it drops and goes back up within 2 seconds while my foot is in the gas. (Cruise control isn’t working so driving with foot the whole time)

If that's the issue,does sound like it,look into a range technology afm delete

40 PSI hot idle is great at 10 years of age! No problems there anyhow. Good news.
