Default HELP - Aftermarket Stereo install with factory amplifier bypass

I have a 2001 Tahoe with the 9 speaker (non Bose) sound sytem and will be installing a single DIN aftermarket head unit. I have read in several forums about bypassing the factory amplifier so the rear speakers can be powered by the head unit (or something to that effect... it's not exactly clear in some posts what is accomplished and why/how). So I have several questions really --
-What exactly is gained by bypassing the factory amp (so, using the aftermarket deck power instead) and -Will this disable the subwoofer in the rear?
-Will this disable the tweeters in the front doors? (are they crossed over and powered at the amp)
-If I do bypass the factory amp, which wiring harnesses do I need in order to do so? This site says 71-2002 and 70-2002. Is this correct for my 2001 Tahoe?

Thanks in advance
