Default Help... Bad things attacked my 2000 Tahoe... Battery positive terminal..

For the third time since I bought this Tahoe my battery just gets chewed up, drained and quite dead. This time everything was fine till I got back from fishing and went back to the lot to get my truck and trailer. It started but then died. It then went dead. Battery was wasted. No water to the top like it was and the positive terminal all sulphated up again.

But this time things took a turn for serious. On the way down the tow button no longer worked. The lights were fine but once we put water in it and managed to get it started again the light switch only worked on manual. The tow light was on now while running but you couldn't get it to go off by pressing the button on the end of the shift control. Also the truck had good voltage on the way back to the camper but died just before I got to my camper in the road. No power, etc. Will go back with a battery in the morning but it seems something is shot on my lights and tow switch. Does this mean anything to one of you experts?

Thanks... Gary

You can not put water in a modern battery. Almost all batteries are maintenance free now

Did you jump started it before all of the malfunctions started to occur?

No maintenance batterys can still run out of water if being overcharged I would think. Not my problem that I know though.

I did change the battery out this morning and the lights seem to be different but I won't know till dark time. The tow button is now out now. It will not switch on. These things all happened before I had it jumped. The tow light being on was after it had been jumped and had run. Jumping was by me with no issues such as shorting out terminals or putting them on backwards. About a 1/2 hour after it being run continuously the computer seemed to pick up enough information to allow the unit to idle properly and in general run fine.

Is there a fuse for the tow motor switch and the auto on lights?

Thanks... Gary

There's fuses for just about everything. Mine has separate fuses for the left and right tails.
