Default help diagnosing clunk in front when going over depressions

I don't notice this necessarily when going over bumps, but when there is a pothole or similar.

Seems to be coming from both sides or the center front. I have raised the wheels and tried to move them to check for weakness in the control arms but they seem stiff.

I also can not duplicate the noise by trying to push the front suspension up and down from outside of the tahoe.

There does seem to be some play in the steering shaft from the power steering unit to the knuckle, to the wheel. Is play in that area normal? Could that be it? Other ideas? 2007 Tahoe.

There should not be any looseness in your steering. It sounds like your tie rod ends are worn out.

The tie rod ends look solid. I am not talking about the tie rod ends.

I am referring to the bar that goes from the actual steering wheel to the steering rack and the knuckle in between. That is where there is some play.

Might also check the sway bar bushings and end links

They are solid. Replaced them a month ago and they appear to be good.

Check the shock/struts mounting points.
