Default Helper air bags - towing

My dad wants help installing air bags on his ford excursion for towing, believing they will help stop the truck from bouncing up /down when towing a 38 foot boat...

anyone have any experience w/these, do they help? the install instructions don't look that hard (I have done lift kits / etc before)

This is to level the truck / helper springs...

I know this isn't a ford forum, but the idea should be the same.

My tahoe has an air compressor + auto leveling + stiffens the ride when I push the tow/haul button

but his ford does not...

thanks!

My dad had airbags on 2 F-350s and a 98 3500 chevy dually. He at all times had at least 1500lbs in the bed plus pulling various trailers. The airbags definetly helped with the ride. But when he'd pull the welding machine out the ride was extremely stiff.

I installed a pair of air lift 1000 air bags on my 02 burban. They work very well. The only hard part was where to place the gauges. The ride was a little firm, but wasn't bouncing. Hope this helps.

Sounds like we will give them a try.

are most people installing an on board compressor or just pumping them up before towing?

I think that would depend on how often your towing. Most people I know with airbags for towing don't have compressors onboard.

nauticstar87: Saw your avatar the other day and it was titled "Angel Fire" because of the outline.

I used the onboard compressor. Just press a button and it's done.

C-17 Flipping the jettison switch on the chaffs and flares. I never noticed the outline in that way, that's a good name for that pic.
