It could be possible that you could hook it up to PC for an update if needed.
Not sure about that, it just makes sense.

Default Get Good quality and cheap GM TECH II

If I pick up the Tech II programmer and the latest TIS software (Version 6.5) along with a 12-month subscription to the authentic GM aftermarket Expertec TIS software on CD-ROM disks, is that all I'll need? Is there something more the dealership has? Are they able to connect to a website that has the latest stuff, that I won't have access to, or will the 12 month TIS subscription suffice? Maybe even that subscription comes along with web access?

I guess the simple way to ask this question is, can I basically get the exact same information that the dealership gets?

Just trying to figure out the protocol. Once I understand how it works I'll be cool. I know there are people on the forum that work at dealerships and understand how it all works hence the questions.

all 2014 models and newer require gds2, gm's new new laptop based software.

The tech II was great in its day but that time is over. Why buy something that will become obsolete not to mention only works on one brand. I wouldn't even recommend it to independent shops at this point.

Go for a laptop based system like autoenginuity. It will do everything you want and more. Updates are very inexpensive.

buying any cheap techII off the internet; I would want to see it work first to make sure it has full functionality. I have heard stories of internet knock offs that are limited as to what they can do. If for $349, if it can do everything a factory tool can do, that is a fantastic price.

Having a scan tool is one thing. You will still need a service information system to provide diagnostic test procedures to fix anything.

I only received it a few days ago so I haven't had much scan time with it so far.. I have used the GM Tech 2 made by Bosch and this seems to be every bit as well made as that unit... I paid $289.00 at a company called (chinacardiags ) ,it took about 10 days to receive the scanner , and it comes well packed and the packaging is pretty much crush proof... I got free shipping on mine, but it looks like they are charging shipping now but have dropped the price of the unit a few dollars..The nice thing about this site is you can use Paypal to pay for it instead of a charge card.......WW

Here's the site....

If you just want to be able to read codes and are not looking for any upgrades, I recommend the Blue Driver Sensor and app. The app is free and the sensor is only $100.00. The app works via Bluetooth and is very easy to use. Blue Driver gives engine, transmission, abs, and body codes. Check them out online. Might save you some money.

Programming a module requires a 'download' of the DATA from a source. A PCM in a C4 would be no issue but I'm quite sure CCM/BCM in a C4 was never supported. A BCM in a more latter more conventional GM that controls accessory RPO etc isn't an issue.
