Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe: The fate of the Tahoe is uncertain at this point. Chevrolet may remake the Tahoe into a smaller, crossover-type vehicle or simply drop it from the lineup altogether

I have no idea what Obama has to do with a GM truck platform. Explain that...
If the car is cancelled it will be because they have a lighter CUV based replacement. But I doubt it. This truck platform is highly profitable and adaptable to almost any fleet need. There may be a new CUV adaptation of the Traverse or Acadia with more trucklike strength to compete with the new Ford Explorer.

If memory serves me right, it was he that allowed/pushed for more stringent mpg standards a lot earlier. That will kill large SUVs quicker than anything.
Be interesting to see what they use for him when the Tahoes are no longer available.

No one cares about fuel mileage. Lets just get that out there for good. If we cared about mileage we would have bought Civics, Escorts, Neons, Cobalts and Aveos, crap like that. Then we would always be complaining that there is no space in the car and we are always constipated. The Tahoe/Yukon, Explorer, Durango are very utilitarian to many fire departments and public service agencies across the country. They could make a weaker motor with more economic fuel standards but then would be the equivalent of using a skateboard to do a forklift job. With the introduction of the 6 speed Automatic transmission and implementation of lighter construction materials fuel standards should increase.
These cars are so useful because properly equipped they are essentially mobile workstations. And then there are the other 3 pages we could write on reliability. Hyundais, Kias, even Nissans havent proven to be THIS reliable. Not even VWs nor Hondas can manage a truck platform as powerful as the Americans.
But trust me, if you re car is on fire or you need help in a hurry, fuel efficiency is the least of your problems.
And on a final note has anyone else gotten a boner from the Silverado HD? Man what a beautiful truck.

but...a vehicle like the durango/grand cherokee combo would be great, a lightwieght rwd v8 powered CUV
it would sell like hotcakes...especially when u add the avalanche to the same model

the grand cherokee gets as bad or worse gas mileage as the Tahoe - with or without the HEMI and its vcm...the key is for everyone to chill on the acceleration/towing wants with the 1/2 ton style SUVs. It is cool and everything to floor 400hp on the 6.2 engine but honestly why do you have to go 0-60 in 6 or 7 seconds in these beasts? see the new Infinity QX56, ugly as hell but fast as hell also with low teens fuel mileage. fuel mileage will never improve until the engines are de tuned a bit, gearing moves more toward fuel mileage vs acceleration (happening some with the 6 speeds) and these things go on a diet.
with that said I still love our Tahoe!

You can detune it to the point where it runs like a lawnmower. It will still weigh 5000 pounds. Seriously? These midsize/fullsize SUVs get almost the same mileage as the midsize/fullsize sedans got in the 1970s. Even with fuel injection and automatic overdrive they still weigh the same.
With respect to Navigators, Escalades, QX56s, LX470s, G500s. Cayennes and such they are cool lux models of the plain platform, fine with me. But the general model Expeditions, Yukons, Titans, Sequoias, Commanders, Touregs, I look at for usefulness. Dont really do towing BUT look for ability to do all my work out of one vehicle, including eating and sleeping if the need existed. A 9 passenger Suburban fits the bill nicely as did the 9 passenger Mercury Colony Park I had before.
My Suburban used to be a NY State Corrections Department vehicle so it came with a rubber floor, window guards and no door handles on the rear doors in the rear. I used this area on the left door to install a 400W power inverter and on the right door to install a a series of 4 cigarette lighters(power ports). I keep my 20 quart cooler in the rear with bottles of water at the ready(and since its winter in NY, no need for refrigeration. They freeze over night and then I go to the supermarket and buy a warm beverage off the shelf and my lunch expense has been reduced) and a propane torch to heat up whatever needs to be. Tinted my windows 5% and keep a couple of blankets back there in case I get stranded on the road in some snow blizzard. Being a jail car it has extra panels on the instrument cluster where the switches for the lights and sirens were. Plus the roof luggage rack. This will make it easier to add a mobile satellite dish or mobile modem so I can file reports on the road instead of looking for a wi-fi hotspot on the road.
You cant get more functional that this you know?
