Default Installing overhead DVD video to 2011 Tahoe LT

Hello - first time poster but longtime Tahoe owner (three since 1997).

Finally giving up my 2001 Tahoe LT for a 2011 LT (non-Nav equipped) with only 8k miles on her. I would like to add an overhead DVD player, preferably replacing the existing dome light and using that power to drive this unit.

Anyone have any experience or links with tips on embarking on this minor customization? Appreciate any advice.

Check w/ Crutchfield for some options.

Just checked out their options and there are a couple of units that appear to be what I am looking for, as they are powered by the existing dome light power. The install video on Crutchfield even suggest mounting to the liner, as if that will have the strength to hold the unit in place.

Any other tips from someone who may have done this or is the install really as straight-forward as it appears here?

Not sure the headliner would support unless there's an attachment to the roof nearby. Maybe the factory brackets are there. Might try removing the dome lite to see what's up there. I take it that the install video wasn't that explicit.

Have you considered installing headrest DVD players instead? Maybe they are not what you are looking for, but the installation, in my opinion, is much easier.
