Just got back from Borders Book Stores and read the new Motor Trend. They are saying that the new Tahoes will feature an Iron Block. Is this correct?

What is the purpose of going back to an iron block.

Also, I have read that the 6.2 wont be offered on the Tahoes, but the 2500 Suburban. Is this correct?

Any notion of zapping the Z-71 Trim?

 

I'm guess'in you mean the GMT900 or 07 and up Tahoe's when you say new. My 07 is an iron block with aluminum heads.

I don't know for certain but I would guess the iron block is cheaper to produce since it is cast where as the aluminum block is more costly becasue of alloys usedwith the aluminumand requires more machining. there are more steps involved in producing an aluminum block then cast iron.

An aluminum block in a vette is effective becasue you want less weight forquicker speed, in a truck your not as concerned about the extra pounds, its primary design is not for speed and quickness.

And you might think that with fuel going up they might switch to aluminum block for trucks...no... the extra cost of producting it would not likely be offset by the serious decline in sales of lager SUV's
