Just bought a 96 tahoe,Performance question,pleeze help!!
I just bought bought a 96 tahoe 4x4 vortec 5.7, What is the best way to increase hp and torque on this truck,,are performance chips the way to go? I have seen these resistors that trick the computer into thinking the incoming air is colder than it actaully is, Is that the way to go? Thanks for any help, Steve
Welcome to the Tahoe forum. How about a 502 crate motor?
Seriously tho, there's probably somebody here with a cheaper answer like maybe a Procharger.

You can use a programmer (like a Hypertech)to change parameters in the computer to get some better performance and change your speedometerif you add larger tires.
Here is what I have done over the past year to my '96:
Replaced engine and transmission with a Jasper Class 1 (was supposed to be Class 2, but that's another story).
Added K&N filter.
Addedheat removing hood to help keep the air cooler.
Larger throttle body.
Although I did get better performance it isn't enough (when is enough enough). I need more low-end torque for towing and off-road soI will be replacing the Jasper 350 with a 383 (prob. Precision Engines) in the near future.
Oh I also put a locker in the back and a Rancho suspension lift, upgraded trans. oil cooler and higher capacity trans. pan. You can see the pics at the link in my signature below.
I have also looked at super and turbochargers and may consider that in the future once I have an engine I can work with.
