2016 Tahoe LTZ, with 5,500 miles. Both the front proximity (following too close) warning and the lane departure warning (and automatic steering correction) have both stopped working. Dealer had no clue; said they'd have to keep it indefinitely, and "tear it all down." Wife said, no, we will just live with it, as she can't do without the car.

Anybody ever hear of this and/ or a fix?

BTW, this is same dealer that told me that when the radio came on by itself, it was "supposed to do that... it's resetting itself." I later wrote to Chevy Customer Service, who then told me about an existing TSB for self-activating radios.

So, I'm hoping that, like the radio, there's a known condition and fix for these two warning systems.

 

the new radios do come on with every engine start up...sounds like some mis- communication with the service writer.

i assume there was no fault dtc with the lane departure or active cruise control systems. the cameras were clean.

Well, the radio is not supposed to come on unless turned on, that's the problem. Folllwing is the Chevy TSB in this regard:

With respect to LKA, and FCA malfunctions, we cannot at this time do without our Tahoe for a week or more, while the dealership "takes it all apart" (their words). I was hoping to find others who have already experienced, and solved this problem, so that I could forward the known solution to the dealership, and avoid lengthy trial and error on their part.

 

when i worked for chevy the new ones were all like that. Now at dodge...same thing...they turn on (depending on the radio option)at start up and you can only mute them...not shut them off. restart to radio on...i do not like it.

 

I'm in agreement with you tech, I don't like it either. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. But I guess they designed it that way just b/c having the radio on, at least the screen being on is the only way to access other features and controls thru the radio screen.

Chet, are you not under warranty still? If you are, I feel like you should be given a loaner...

 

Puzzling thing is that our Tahoe only does it sometimes. And at other times, the radio will randomly turn itself on as we're riding down the road. Very disconcerting if, for example, the last time it was on, I had the volume cranked waaay up, listening to my favorite rock tune.

Solution for now is to completely turn volume **** to zero before powering down the radio. That way, should it turn itself on unexpectedly, at least there's no sudden onset of unwanted and unexpected noise.

I am still under warranty. Tahoe is 3 months old and 5,000 miles. I'll have to ask about their warrany loaner policy, if they have one.

 

Update:
Dealer comfirmed last week that a short in the forward viewing camera was the cause of malfunctioning Land Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, and automatic hi/low beam headlight switch. This camera is mounted in the upper center windshield, behind the rear view mirror. The replacement camera is on national backorder, with no known date of availability. Additionally, they recognized the TSB for radio malfunction, turning itself on automatically at random times. There is currently no knkwn fix available for the malfunction.

Thus, I am 0 for 4 so far on my warranty work.
