Leaking engine oil cooling hose
Just got this email from my brother. He's got a 2003 GMC Yukon XL Denali. I own a 2007 Tahoe LT3. Anyone else had this problem? Is it as common a problem as my brother's service guy says it is?
Excerpt from his email:
I just found a leak in the Denali from the Engine Oil cooling hose, it runs from oil filter tothe radiator. It leaks from the compression point where the metal meets the rubber. Iasked the parts guy this morning if it was a common thing in the GM rigs. His response was, "it's a common place to leak." Anyways, when I talked to Alex (friend whose a service guy)he said to make sure your grease zerks are greased. He's found that the hose and greasing points are the main repairs he's had to do on the GM rigs ranging from 1995-2007. There are 10 of them and if they don't get greased, you'll have to replace either the whole upper control arm, lower control arm, or the tie rod. So, if you don't have a grease gun it would be a good investment to have one. I wouldn't trust or depend on the service guys to do it. I took mine in last time and by the looks of it now doesn't look like they did it. I ended using almost a whole tube of grease on the Denali.

Re: grease zerks. The NBS Tahoe only has two, on the outer tie rod ends. If your brother used almost a whole tube of grease, then I'll bet there was a lot on the ground and other chassis parts. An eleven oz tube should grease a set (4) of ball joints, tie rod ends (4), and pitman & idler armsmany times.
