Liftgate manual release not working - Well, I've really done it now...
My 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ with the electric lift gate had the liftgate stop opening. I ensured the liftgate was turned on at the switch in the front of the Tahoe, but the latch would not open with the fob or the switch on the handle of the liftgate. I drilled out the hole in the trim and was able to hit the manual release to get the latch to open - and I was able to hand-open the lift gate. I got the trim off but I stripped my torx sockets trying to remove the latch assembly bolts. So, I closed the liftgate, drove to the hardware store to get a new bit and now the manual release is not even working... the trim is off so I can push it with my finger, so I know I'm hitting it. But I can't get the liftgate open at all now. There is a faint buzzing sound when I use the fob or liftgate external switch but the latch does not open (which was the original problem). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the door open so I can finish replacing the latch? I suppose the latch may have shifted slightly when I managed to strip the torx screws trying to remove it, but I really don't think so - none of the three bolts appeared to even budge. I suspect Lock-tite was on them.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to disassemble the latch assembly while it's still mounted on the liftgate (from the inside of the vehicle) and try to physically pry the latch open? That sounds like a lot of fun - so I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone knew any other tricks here?
Thanks,
Erik.
