Smile Looking to buy a Suburban. This a good price?

Hey guys,

Been test driving some large SUVs and narrowed things down to a LR LR3, MB GL450 and a Suburban. All very different vehicles, I know, but I like different aspects of them all. I've never owned an American car but what I love about the Suburban is it's comfort, utility and cost. I found a 2004 Z71 with 95k on it. It is one owner and the guy just put in a new transmission a few weeks ago. Overall it is pretty clean with the exception of a small ding on the front fender. He said he would go down to $12,250 on it but I am going to see about working him down to $11,500 if possible. Do you guys thinks this a good deal? Is there anything about these or this year that I need to look for or watch out for? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

One problem with the Z / 71 was the painted bumpers developed rust under the paint.

Thanks, the vehicle is in Colorado so hoping that isn't going to be an issue, but I will check. Any thoughts on the actual price? Or anything I should look at under the hood?

Every used car is a gamble. We bought an 07 with 99k a month or so ago. For 17500. If that helps any. These suburbans are nice vehicles. Get it at a price where if something breaks or goes bad it's not stressful to fix. Anymore with new car prices at 40-60k for something nice, 12k sounds real good if it's not trashed.

The most likely "expensive" thing to go out is the transmission...looking at ~$2500 or less... as long at you keep that in prospective and didn't break the bank to buy the vehicle, you should be okay...Its used, its likely to have some issues, and even some major ones, that the previous owner may not have know of...

Tranny, I would ask a few questions. Was the transmission LKQ(used), rebuilt (by who), dealer reman, dealer new? A lot of times people say they "replaced" the transmission but do not specify what type of replacement it really was. That would be my concern....just my two cents.

Question

Hello and welcome to the forum fellow newbie.

To be honest, $12K seems high to me. I have a 2001 LT 4X4 Autoride loaded with every feature imaginable, only 130K on the clock, and will be selling it for $5K
So is 3 years and 30K more miles worth $7K more?

Vector1, when will you be selling this? We love our 02 so much more than our 07.

Probably soon as it looks like my son will not be getting it.

Funny how you list your 02 in your signature, as ours both seem very similar. I also agree that the 00-06 gen has less problem than the newer one.
