Default Lower Brake lights not working/Highmount brake light works

Hi all!

I've got some issues with my 1997 K1500 Suburban. After camping a couple of weeks ago I went to check my trailer lights. No Hazard lights on my truck or my camper... I had my wife step on the brake pedal. Then I noticed I had no brake lights either.... Later on in the week I was playing around with the hazard switch. I get it in just the right spot my hazard on the right will come on but, I have to turn the left turn lights on with the turn signal lever. Do my brake lights route through the turn signal switch? Is my turn signal switch to blame? Thanks for any and all help anyone can give me! I don't want to spend $200 on a new turn signal switch and that not be my problem!

Thanks,

Chris.

Sounds like the hazard switch has issues. No hazard AND no brake lights point to the hazard switch. When my old Impala hazard switch would act up, I'd quickly cycle the switch 5-10 times to clear the dirt off of the contacts.
Do the turn signals work (front and back)?
When you have the hazard switch fully closed, try the turn signal switch. Do the lights then blink? (left with left, right with right) If they don't, then the flasher relay may be the problem. I'd also check the trailer connector for shorts/corrosion.

Turn signals will come on with the hazard switch in a certain position. Without using the hazard switch I only have signals on the front. No brake lights other than my high mount brake light. On the dash the right signal will come on with the hazard switch but, not the left. I have to manually turn it on.

Did you check both fuses?

Are both the front turn lights and the dash indicators are working with the turn signal switch?
and, nothing in the back?

Do the front lights work when you do this?

Maybe you have 2 problems.
With all the testing (Hazard, turn, or brake) you never got the rear lights to work?
With the front turn signal working, but not the front hazard.... Bad hazard switch
Do you have a test meter or a test light?
With nothing working at the back.... Bad ground at the lights or bad wiring, maybe the turn signal switch.
Use a test meter or test light to check for power at the rear lights. (Yellow/Left, Dark Green/Right). The brown wire is for the park light.
If no power at the lights, check for power at the yellow and dark green wires coming out of the turn signal switch.
Let us know what you find.
