They prevent metal on metal contact from the spring and the spring cup. This sound can be loud.

 

I know this is an old thread, but i am experiencing the same strange behavior with my lowered LTZ. Under braking, making a left turn, the abs kicks in for just a breif moment. It doesnt seem to do it during right turns. Not a big deal, just puzzling??????
