Default .multiple electrical issues due to packrat damage

Hey people, how is everyone? My '02 Z71 K1500 Tahoe 5.3l has lost 3rd gear. I think maybe if I change the back 2 solenoids, since my problems with 3rd gear, I am hopeful this will solve it. Also my cai is supposed to be a closed unit. There's no cover on top of the breather box, which has gotta be messing with the MAF, right? Oh, one odd thing. I use a dongle OBD2 reader that I leave plugged up, and record my live data. If the tahoes running, I lose all my dash functions, all the gauges act like the trucks off. Plug it back in, I've got a speedo, tach, all of them.

If you lose a gear I don't think a solenoid will fix it. the 4l60e is weak anyway especially with bigger tires or being abused. not to mention if its original its 20+ years old. how many miles on it?

The CAI for these truck "seal" on the hood. is it a complete seam? no. does it do any good? maybe

The MAF doesnt care about air temp or anything, just how much air goes by it. as long as the system is sealed after the MAF then it will be ok.

Never heard of a dongle messing with the dash cluster. so i don't think its normal. i can read my 03s live data with no issue. have you tried other readers to see how it works? could you return the dongle?
