Default Is my engine toast?

196K miles, oil level OK, but oil pressure is about 20 while driving, drops to 0 at idle, beeping/low oil pressure warning in DIC.

Time for a new engine, or am I missing something easier and cheaper?

2006 LT 4WD, 5.3 engine. Valve ticking noise quite obvious.

ticking all the time or when the pressure drops? i'd think it would be worth getting a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it and verifying, depending how much you've drove it that way you may not have to condemn the entire engine

Ticking all the time now, although it quiets down a bit if I drive it. It's my wife's truck so I don't know what the pressure was reading prior to this, but it's never had the warning/beeping before. Parked now, will try to drop the pan this weekend and take a look; oil pump pickup, o-ring,...clogged filter perhaps?
