Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default My search for a non AFM truck was successful

I know it's not a Tahoe or Suburban, & I apologize if this is the wrong forum for posting this, but this subforum is my primary hangout.

I'd been wanting a GMT900 for my daughter, since she's accustomed to the controls from using my 08 Burb as her primary vehicle. A used truck with an AFM 5.3 was not an option.

Picked up an 09 Sierra Denali with only 63k miles. Canadian import. Anyone need a Sierra owners manual in French?

Just about every Denali I'd seen was black or white. I think this truck is GORGEOUS. Very happy

Saw it originally on Autotrader; at a small used car dealership here in MI. They bring over a lot of cars from Canada. $26500 was the final purchase price.

It had a leaking/dripping pinion seal on the front axle, which they replaced. After we'd agreed on the price, I found that the passenger side mirror power fold function was broken. Dealer was hesitant to buy a replacement on his dime; they're stupid-expensive. I still have the OEM mirrors from my Burb, so I supplied the mirror, and the dealer did the labor for the mirror swap. Seemed fair to me.

Man - I thought my tuned Burb was quick (for a truck). This thing is FAST. 50 more hp and 1000 fewer pounds with AWD - hit the gas and it goes!

No issues bringing a Canada truck to the USA? Isn't the dash in KPH?

(as it should be, because 'Merica is just stupid). But all of our signs are still miles.

Hey, we went to the moon without the metric system.

Quick aside - I remember my high school physics teacher extolling the virtues of the metric system - 1 ml of water is 1 cc and weighs 1 gram. I held up my hand and asked a question and we had this exchange...

Me: Mr. D, doesn't one ounce of water weigh one ounce?
Mr. D: Shut up, kid

The truck had to be reprogrammed to imperial units.

The headlights (not DRLs) are always on when the truck is out of park, per Canadian law. Not going to bother trying to disable it.

I haven't tried it yet, but I was told the voice commands are still set to French. Will have to get my wife to switch it over to English. Truck is being detailed now; I pick it up on Wednesday.

Of course, I filled it up for the first time, with regular, not realizing that premium is recommended for it. But at 12-13 MPG, that should keep her from racking up too many miles.
