Navigation question on a 2017 'Burb
I'm starting to regret not getting the stand-alone Nav in my Burb. I don't like having to call OnStar every time I want directions in-car and I dislike that all they give me is turn-by-turn with no live map view. I also don't intend to pay the ridiculous monthly fee they want to continue the service. On my 2015 Jeep I was able to upgrade my factory radio to Nav for less than $300 through the dealer. Is there such an option for these GM radios? Google Maps via Android Auto works well enough, but I have to remember to connect my phone to it beforehand or risk fumbling with it while driving (why no BT connection?) in order to use it. Sometimes, all I want is just a live map to see where I am. I found a couple of companies that sell what they call an "OEM" add-on for Nav, but they want more than $900 for this device not including installation. That's ridiculous. My dealer wasn't much help, either, and did not know if it could be upgraded.
On another note, I discovered when trying to scroll through the preset text message replies that the system won't allow it while the vehicle is moving. I can pick from one of the 3 I can actually see on the screen, but there's no way to rearrange them so that the 3 I can see are the ones I would most likely use (like Yes, No or OK). I understand the desire to keep people from texting while driving, but this seems counter-productive to that goal. Certainly allowing me to pick from all the preset messages is better than forcing me to use my phone to reply.
