Angry Need help, 98 tahoe not going into any gears after getting the pan replaced

I just had the transmission pan replaced today due to the old one's plug popping out and it leaking all fluid. now its replaced correctly sealed and everything but now after putting fluid in and everything it wont shift into gears at all. no leaks anymore and before the plug fell out it shifted normally and worked just fine but now it wont. what could of happened? is my transmission shot now or a simple fix or what?

Welcome to the forum.

Was the vehicle run after the transmission fluid had drained out?

it was started but never put into gear or anything. it shifted just fine before it leaked everything out the bottom of the plug was gone and the top inside the pan. it was the original one so im guessing it got old. but they replaced it and now it wont go into gear. no noise no feeling of going into gear. the brake light is on and it starts up fine and everything.

Did you put enough fluid in?

I hate to be the bad guy here, But the tranny is one of those mysterious items that is the most unforgiving mechanical contraptions to ever exist.

usually no fluid for even just a second will grenade it. SO many working parts that need fluid of some sort in it. No fluid, no go.

THE OTHER POSSIBILITY:
Not enough fluid. a transmission that loses its fluid while operating will need 2-3 quarts more than a standard refill.
