I need clarification on the power of the stock motor. Is it 225/330 or is it 255/375.
Vortec 5700 L31 VIN code R SFI
If its either of those I will be happy with a decent motor with ~300/400

Search 6.0L HO LQ9. It is a popular swap for the NBS with 5.3L. Someone found one for $1,800 shipped with computers and 35k miles. Check compatability with your transmission.

you just lost me, I have the Vortec 5.7L in her now. I prefer a new crate motor if possible.
So can anyone give me solid numbers for HP/TQ on the Vortec 5700?

Would this motor work?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MLL-BP3550CT/
Granted I would have to pull the lower intake off to add my intake to go to SFI.
Or this one (not sure if its emission legal)

Hey, go to your local UHaul store and ask them where are the trucks for sale. Get one of them and debone it. I drove a GMC Uhaul 14 foot box truck around Los Angeles in the year 2000 that had a 454 in it. Then a couple of years ago I worked with a fleet management company that had a contract with Uhaul and Budget to service their trucks and thats what they did. They would pull something out of one of their own retired trucks to install in a current truck. And a 454 will give you the power curve you want.
