Vehicle Description:
2003 Tahoe 4x4
Vortec 5300 V8 FlexFuel
5.3 Liter
Automatic
63,000 Miles

I'm having difficulty get her started when fuel level is relatively low, but not out of gas. Seems to need around six gallons in the tank to crank. Has about a half a tank now and this morning she would turn over by shut off in 33° F weather. Temperature dropped from 45° F overnight. I've got my theories but looking for more opinions.

So you NEVER have the problem when the tank is over half way?

Not yet. I've had the vehicle for three weeks and have driven 2500 miles...

Default guess

just guessing here:

Fuel pump or clog in fuel system.

2003... have you checked or replaced the fuel filter?

that's an easy job right?

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. Should be a simple fix. I wanted a second opinion before I drained it and removed the tank. Could it be anything else?

sounds like low pressure when the tank gets low, like its having a hard time pushing fuel to the block...

be sure to put out any cigarrettes before starting this job or at least turn on the video camera if you dont

Does that style Tahoe have an external fuel filter? Thought it was part of the pump in the tank but not sure.

Not sure, Shark. I'm looking for a repair manual but there's not one local. I may just have to order one.

If it has an external filter, look for it inside the frame rail.
