Hi guys,

I just bought a 2002 Suburban after a long search for a 9 passenger model with low-ish miles. Mine is the LT 4WD with the dual fuel Vortec. Overall the truck is clean save for the carpets and seats are soiled. I have a few issues I am sorting out, so I did a quick search here and didn't find any recent discussions.

1. engine knock sensor code being tossed. The dealer I bought it from washed under the hood thoroughly before selling, so I am guessing some water intrusion might be the cause. How much needs to be removed to change the knock sensors in this this truck? The chiltons manual shows them mounted on the intake.

2. Door bottom seam corrosion. It's not significant, but is this something that you would fix with a wire wheel and spray paint, or should I take it to a body shop for a professional fix? It's the only place anywhere on the truck where there is any sign of corrosion, but it's on all 4 doors where the outer skin is welded to the door structure. Again, this is minimal, but I would prefer to address it before it results in a serious issue.

3. the carpets and front seats are a little soiled. Most people wouldn't think so, but I am rather **** about my ride...so I would like to get them clean. It's been a long time since I have had a cloth seat vehicle, so if you have any advice on a good cleaning technique for cloth seats, I would be happy to hear about it. The carpets I am planning on pulling out, scrubbing/shampooing, then reinstalling.

4. Oh, and is there a good place to get factory fit floor-mats? When I was cleaning the floor-mats, I noticed that the color didn't match the cargo mat, and they didn't seem to fit the floor contours like I would expect factory mats to fit. My guess is the ones I have are cheap aftermarkets.

Thanks in advance for the help,
DH1

Welcome to the forum.

Lloyd mats are the best, fit as good as factory and are much better. If you don't want to spend that much, then you can just get a set of factory mats.

The door skins are just pinched on and have a seam sealer, then painted. It the rust is not serious, I'd just clean it off, prime, and repaint.

Can't help w/ the knock sensor but someone else here should be able to.

You can try a good uphostery cleaner or take it to a professional detailer.

for the carpet you might want to look at replacement, I replaced the rear cargo area carpet for my 97 Tahoe, got it on-line and it was not expensive and matched perfectly, only had to cut the holes for the tie downs and that is optional if you prefer not to, and have a smooth area.
most on-line retailers will send you sample swatches for the carpet colors
