Default New K&N 77-series installed in the '07 Tahoe

This is the K&N 77-series installed in my '07 Tahoe LT3 4x4 with the 5.3L. It looks great; drives even better! It does feel like it's got more "pep" to its step.

Looks pretty good. Does that intake have a heat sheild? If not, I wonder how much heat from the engine bay (< highway speeds) increases influent air temp. Any change in induction sound (engine growl?).

The Z71 package comes with a 'high performance' intake and I wonder how they compare.

Where you get the kit from and how much? I had the same intake on my 03 4.8L. It made the engine quite louder. How much louder is the 5.3L? Thanks..

Yeah, there's a heat shield. You can't see it really well in the picture, because it's all black, but you can sort of see the edge of it around the cone filter. I got mine from Stylin' Concepts (www.stylinconcepts.com) for $320 (free shipping). First drive into work this morning, I really noticed that I didn't have to lay on the gas pedal much to get moving. I also saw V4 mode quitea bit more on the freeway. Engine "growls" more on acceleration, but it'sa good "growl".

I have not heard this, what does Z71 intake look like?

I'm going with the 63 series. The 77 series according to K&N makes less power than the 63. I'm asuming because of heat related issues being that one is made from plastic and the other from aluminum. I'll post dyno reports hopefully tomorrow if I get the rear suspension figured out in time.

The brochure refers to a performance intake; however, I am not sure what it really is. When I get a chance I will open the intake box and see what is in there. Does anyone have a picture of the 'standard' intake box and internals?

Standard box just has a regular flat panel pleated paper filter. I did notice the owner's manual lists a hipo AC filter. Not sure what it is.
