New to me 2001 Chevy Suburban- needs work
Howdy folks,
Bought my first Chevy truck (well technically suburban) for 1300 bucks from my boss. The truck will need
1. Brake lines, I already ordered the new brake lines, stainless steel, any advice would be much appreciated.
2. Low idle- idles around 500 rpm or so. I'm assuming it's the iac valve, but as always I'm open to suggestions
3. Voltage gauge bounces rapidly- so this one I'm really not sure about. Battery is completely garbage, picking a new one up tomorrow, but the previous owner said once he put a new alternator on its always done that.
4. Random cylinder misfire- I'm guessing it's because old fuel, probably needs a tune up, clean the throttle body etc. Let me know
5. New pads, rotors, calipers (maybe) tie rods (inner and outer) and sway bar end links- it doesn't really need sway bars or tie rod ends, but with 2 out of 3 of my f250s, I had the right side outer tie rod end shear off in the knuckle. So as a precaution, I'm just doing them.
Anyways, thanks for reading and giving me your advice, here are the pictures of the rig
Looks like you got yourself, a nice Suburban at a good price. I bought a 2001 Yukon XL, 2 1/2 years ago down in GA, with about 100K miles. It also had a handful of things to fix, like yours. It's a 20 year old used car and you have to expect that. Right off the bat, I had to put tires, fuel pump and shocks before I could drive it home. Basically general maintenance stuff.
What I did was make a llist of all things that needed attention and just picked off one at a time. Soon, there was no list. You already have the list, try the same, good luck with the new truck.

Matter of fact, I do. If you're 70, like I am, have a mechanic do the brake lines. Although I am in good shape and could do the lines, those days are over.
