you just gotta love that orange peel!

 

Orange peel is a by-product of mass production, some paint jobs and colors are worse then others but every main stream auto producer goes the rounds with this.

There are some foreign builders that have discovered that a very thin layer of paint will prevent the orange peel effect, the problem is that after a couple of dozen wax jobs the primer starts to show through.

 

Orange peel is a fact of life now. Some high end cars go through the process of a final wet sand and buff. But that is not financially viable for the majority of production cars.

 

Interesting that my BMW M3 doesnt have the orange peel. The finish is pretty durable! I rub wax on that thing more then, well, you know what...

With huge productions numbers and the low, low price I'm really surprised that they don't have orange peel...On some vehicles you have to expect a little more refinement.

 

I think they use krylon spray cans????

FWIW I wouldn't consider Corvettes truly mass production and I've seen those that are much worse than my Tahoe.

 

My Silverado has runs and drips on it.Each of the front doors have a drip in the bottom corner, and the tailgate has 3 drops at the bottom

 

I really like the White Diamond paint ever since I first saw it on the Escalade. Can't wait to see this on the Tahoe.

Are there any other new goodies like this (excluding the hybrid) coming for the '08 Tahoe or are there some things being saved or '09? Can you comment ZX?
