Tahoe & SuburbanThe power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.
Brand new Suburban owner here, and my first GM SUV I have ever owned, coming from a Ford Explorer and happy to trade up for more space for my growing family. I purchased a used 2019 Premier Trim with the RST Edition trim.
It is pretty loaded up with lots of options and I was mainly looking for that 6.2L with the 10 speed vs the older and less efficient 5.3L and 6 speed.
Just wondering if anyone knows anything I should look out for or be on the lookout to fix or maintenance items. Mileage is at 94K miles but clean carfax and at 70K miles I see lots of maintenance items were done.

The one they partnered with Ford to create once, and then never again? haha
The 6-speeds were pretty good. 10 speeds not so much.
I doubt there is a noticeable difference in efficiency. The drop in reliability though, oo boy ...
Oh man what did I get into LOL... well from what I am reading online the biggest issues is the AFM or DFM - L86/L87 is the main cause of these major engine issues.
What can I do or get that will permanently disable the fuel saving mode that is causing the lifter/pushrod issues.
Thanks for the feedback guys I appreciate all opinions and feedback.
Currently as I just got the vehicle I am looking to do the fastest preventative measures I can do to try and get a nice long life out of the vehicle. At 94k miles when I bought it even thou it has a great carfax and lots of maintenance done I am trying to get it as reliable as possible and at near 100k miles I know I need to make these improvements now.
I did order the Range OBD2 module that will force the computer into V8 mode only as right now I do not have the time or money to do the delete camshaft procedure. But that should immediately stop V4 mode and theoretically stop those harsh pressure changes in the lifters that could induce failure.
Also it doesn't have a catch can on it and I know it would help a ton keep the carbon build up down. I see that Corsa and J&L have some good options for the 6.2, any other good options?
My bro used a Range and the engine blew up at 60k. The device also prevented the truck from coasting. OBD ports are for performing diagnostics only.
He said you can achieve the same result (prevent 4-cyl mode) by just using the manual shifter, without the downsides.
That's odd I have seen a ton of positive reviews on the Range plug-in.. but now I will dig into this closer maybe return. Yeah I can shift it to stay out of the AFM but the problem is when my wife is driving she wont do that at all lol.
Not odd at all. It's a mechanical problem. Range does disable 4cyl mode, but that just hides the problem. It's more of a "pedal feels good" thing for people.
It's a terribly designed engine. No software is going to magically keep it from spraying oil all over the cylinder walls, for example.
software can't make up for faulty oil pickup o-rings, or failed VLOMs. It's an oil pressure issue, not a software issue.
Why would dealerships be installing replacement camshafts into brand new trucks straight from the factory?
There is a lawsuit against GM for the L87 engines.
There are people in this forum with cratered L87 after only 3,000 miles: https://chevroletforum.com/forum/sil...48/#post491984

Range will not prevent failure.

because sending people products in exchange for positive reviews doesn't happen right? Try reading the bad reviews too.
Plenty of disablers are flaking out and causing weird issues, shifting problems and trouble lights. It will also cause you to fail emissions tests.
It causes the fuel injectors to keep injecting fuel even when you take your foot off the accelerator making awkward coast-downs.
Spamming the ECU with messages while driving is never a good thing.
