Whats going on everyone. New guy from Atlatna, Ga. I currently have someone looking for an '06, '07 or '08 Tahoe LT2, moving over to the SUV world for the first time. I was told that '07's had had a bunch of issues so i'm better off with an '06 or an '08. It will be my daily driver so i dont need the 6.0 or anything, gas mileage will weigh on my decision. My major question is, is a higher payment worth looking for an '08 (or '07 if you all dont think it would be an issue to buy)? I am assuming that I will not have much of a warranty left, if any at all, when I buy.


Currently in the process of selling my lightly modded 2004 BMW 330i. I've loved having cars but I really look forward to having a truck. I've been looking at a lot of pictures and reading as many posts as possible, I'm looking forward to digging in and getting started.


As i'm out looking, any suggestions or warnings prior to purchase?

I would not even consider an '06. The new body style ('07 and up), is a better vehicle in every way. My '07 LTZ has had only a couple minor issues that were covered by warranty. It's my daily driver (work vehicle) that was bought to replace my '01 Yukon. Even the wife has been impressed, so much so that I bought an '09 LTZ for family use. You probably won't find a 6.2 anyway, so the standard 5.3 will do you fine. My 2wd '07 averages 16 mpg, the '09 6.2 4X4 only gets 14 on average but definitely makes tracks compared to the 5.3. The factory nav is pretty good, better than MB, BMW, etc. (the nav in my E55 was absolute crap in comparison). I think only the Lexus system is better. If you can swing it, I'd hold out for an '09 to get bluetooth, it's in all '09 and later Tahoes.

I appreciate the input. Unfortunately the '09 is out of my price range. The '08 is doable but i dont know that the pro's outweigh the cons of having an additional $150-200 added to my car payment each month. If the '07 doesn't have many "major" issues when compared to the '08 then that would be an ideal solution.

Once you go Tahoe you most likely will never go back. I am on my second one. I bought my 2007 in Nov. 2008 with 39,000 on it for 20,500. I have not had a single problem with in . By far the NNBS is the best one yet. Don't go with the 2006 (not a bad truck) but you will be disappointed that you did not go with the newest look. And the 2007 come with a 5 year 100,000 mile transferable powertrain warranty (engine, transmission , differentials and transfer case). What ever you decide I do not recommend a engine smaller than 5.3 otherwise in the long run you will wish you did. Be patient shop around, I did and my payment is only $280.00 a month. You would never be able to tell it was a LS model.

YAY! another one joins the ranks... you will be pushing hippy's and priuses out of the passing lane in no time.

You do however want the 09... just wait 6 months and they will drop in $

the 09 added a 6 speed automatic that is a vast improvement over the 4 speed previously used...

and the 09 has bluetooth built in, since more states are (thank god) banning talking on a hand held while driving!

trust us, get the 09! the 2010 adds stuff, but nothing worth waiting for...

I was looking at a used 08; but my credit union offered supplier pricing on the 09... with the 6 speed, brake controller, blue tooth, and the cooled seats... it was the better buy, even if it was $10,000 more long as you keep it 10 years, you got your $ worth... my last Tahoe lasted 14 years! (and still runs to this day as far as I know)

the cooled seats finally pushed me into buying it.... i thought... man this finally feels like a $$$ car...

I'm still pissed the insurance on the Esky was $300/month more... but maybe once I get hitched that will drop.... sell the Tahoe to the wife and get me 405 HP

Wow, i was unaware that the '07 came with a 5 year 100k miles warranty, the '06 only has a 3 year 50k (i think?). Def. something to think about.

I work with a broker that goes to auction to find cars for me, I tell him exactly what i'm looking for and he goes out and finds it. I really like the idea of lowering my car payment. I do like the idea of cooled seats, but again, for the payment that i'm shooting for, i just dont know that stretching for an '09 is the most financially sound move based on the economy.

And i loved the "Pushing hippies and prius's"


Does anyone know of any issues that the '07s have had that he might have been referring to? I'm going to try to do some more research, but i have not been able to find anything yet.

ALL the 07, 08, 09, and 10 come with FACTORY 5 year 100,000 powertrain. ( As far as I know it is transferable for $.)

and 3 year 36,000 bumper to bumper (no transfer fee)

can you drive an 07 and an 09? the 6 speed is silk smmmooooooooooooth

and gets better MPG...

I'm sure I can drive both, but again, an '09 is going to be outside of what i've decided I want my car payment to be. It will more than likely be '06-'08

just bought an 09 and i love it

It transfers for free. It goes with the vin #. You do not even have to do anything to get it . No matter who owns it they put the vin in their computer and if it is in 5 years it goes. I think it is based off the production date (5 years) but I could be wrong.
