Default O2 Quandary and Don't Understand Reading OBD | 8.1L 2500

Check out the movie links:

My interpretation of these readings tells me the O2 sensor(s) on one bank works fine, but the other bank is malfunctioning. The (v) is fluctuating nonstop. Thing is, there's two brand new O2 upstream sensors on the car. I think I should now check for some kind of bad wiring situation, right?

Also, as I understand it, the the location of Bank one is the driver's side. Bank 2 is the passenger's side. But I look at this graphic and that's not what I see --unless I'm reading it wrong it's saying bank 2 is on the left AND the right side? https://www.autocodes.com/qa/?qa=blo...13019076854661

Confusing stuff. Thoughts?

Factory sensors or aftermarket? Check your STFT, both banks normally vary from -3 to +3 at idle normally.

Bosch, so after market O2 sensors now installed on the upstream. That's what I put in. The ones I pulled out during the replacement were Denso. Not sure what the downstream sensors are just yet, but I'll be working on it this morning and will report back.

The weird thing I can't figure out is that GIF graphic for the engine. How is it listing Bank 1 and 2 on both sides? That's got to be a printing mistake or am I just not comprehending the illustration?

Looking at sensor voltage waveform is hard. Focus on the STFT, Short Term Fuel Trims at idle. The plus 3 to minus 3 fluctuation or less is normal at idle and is a result of normally functioning O2 sensors controlling fuel mixtures. Sensor voltage waveform is more useful to seeing if sensor is dead indicator.
The voltage fluctuations of the O2 sensors is them working so don't focus on that, it's too hard to figure out. Each bank graph is a different color on most scan tools.
As long as the STFT are in spec the O2 are working just fine.
The sensor 2 in each bank are the after cat ones and voltage in them is usually a flat reading none spiking when cats are working OK

Thanks for the feedback. Very helpful. That's a bit reassuring.

So, if I understand correctly, you're saying that my OBD read-out in that reference video shows the upstream O2 sensor(s) on the left (labeled in the app GUI as O2 sensor 1) and the downstream O2 sensors (labeled in the app GUI as O2 sensor 2) on the right.

This is why the left readouts varies a lot and the right one does not --Because the right is downstream and AFTER the catalytic converter and such readings are typically stable.

I also admit I was getting a bit confused between the terminology regarding BANK with cars. The OBD app is not using plurals for the display. It would have been nice if the GUI said something like "UPSTREAM SENSOR(S)", which would include both banks of the engine and I wouldn't misunderstand what "1" and "2" are referencing, which I did, but so it goes.

Next, I'll definitely take a peek if the Short-Term-Fuel-Trim are within the -3 +3 parameters you mentioned.

Banks are the left and right side of the motor. Sensor one in either bank is the one closest to the engine. Sensor 2 in either bank is the one after the cats.
Can be confusing if your tool only displays one bank at a time with both 1 and 2 sensors showing in the same graph.
