Default Oil Life Question....010 tahoe

just wondering about something ive noticed on my 2010 tahoe. i change the oil in my truck every 3k...... 4k is the most ill let it go on synthetic 5-w30 mobil one. but if i do that by the time im ending another oil cycle(3000 miles) my oil life percentage is still about 60% so this has me wondering is gm expecting you to change the oil every 5-6000miles instead of 3000. because i would like to save a bit of money there instead of waisitg good oil befor its bad. and i know synthetic i use is good for about 5-7 k. but the oil filter is only good for 3. the guy that sells me oil and filters says there is no oil filter that is good for more than 3k. i use frams now but he suggested i switch to carquest brand because they are better. is this true? or is he just trying to sell me junk?. what do you think?

this is what GM has to say about it...
Keep in mind you can go up to 12,000 on an oil change with Dino oil per GM OLMS

"guy that sells me oil and filters says there is no oil filter that is good for more than 3k." - of course he does...he wants to sell more. tell him to show you his proof on this.
I suggest Mobil 1 synthetic (or another good full synthetic of your choice) with a quality filter (not Fram from all that I have read) and you will get 5000 - 10000 safe miles easy.
We are at 7300 miles with our latest oil change that I did (Mobil 1 filter and synthetic) and the oil life still shows about 25%.
I will probably change soon because I think 7500 miles or about 2 times per year is an easy rule of thumb to remember and follow.

Just so you know, Fram filters are to stay away from.

I use Mobil 1 5W30 and AC filters and go by the OLS. Since most of my driving is city, only get about 7-8K mi on a change.
