Default OK "know it alls" lets hear it

My 94 suburban was involved in a small cosmetic accident which was enough for the Insurance Co. to total it. I am now looking to replace it with a 2001 to 2005 year suburban.
What are the main differences between these years??? Example: The stopping power was improved in 04 (I think).

Can the newer suburbans still fit a sheet of 4'x8' plywood laying flat with the seats folded down as my 94 did?

Are the 01-05's still built just as good as the older ones? Mine was at 174k before the accident and still runs perfect with it's original transmission.

Any thing you know that can help my buying decision would be very much appreciated, even if it's about ... "heated mirrors were available in year ????" .

Each year gets progressively newer features, if you want the most features go with the 05, your also more likely to find one with lower miles then an 01.

newer models are not an option for me. This came out of the blue and I am not prepared to spend that kind of money. I am looking for a $10K range +-2k , so that usually ends up in the 100k mile area.

The 2007 and newer are nice and flashy but they don't seem to be as rigid or tough. Just a visual opinion, they may just be as strong as the older ones.

I tend to agree that the new ones are a bit softer then the previous body style that was based more on the truck then the SUV. The fact that they don't even have a real front bumper attest to that, and the lack of a steel pan protecting the gas tank is another...

Easiest way to get better gas mileage is to lighten the load, which it seems they did.
