So about a year ago I started getting really harsh shifts (especially first to second gear). Later in the drive the check engine light came on and stayed lit for the rest of the 2hr drive.

Got it home and scanned it to see a P0011 ("A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1) code. This pointed to replacing the VVT solenoid so with a little research on the topic I put in a healthy order of parts to RockAuto and did the following replacements:
1) VVT Solenoid
2) VVT Actuator
3) Water pump
4) Fan Clutch
5) Radiator hoses
6) Serpentine belt
7) Idler pully
And also did an oil change even though it wasn't due for another 1,500 miles

This seemed to fix everything for around a year now. I don't drive the truck that much but most of that driving is towing a 20 foot enclosed trailer.

If I remember correctly, I used an "OE replacement" VVT Solenoid.

Do these not last as long as the Original Chevy parts?

Is it likely that my new VVT solenoid is already dying and does anyone have recommendations for a more preeminent fix?
