Been trying to figure out what is causing poor acceleration from a stop on my 2008 Suburban with a 5.3 L V-8. The DTC given by OnStar diagnostics indicated a P0016 code which according to service manual is a Cam Sensor or a Crankshaft Sensor and/or a upstream Oxygen sensor on Bank 1. I have replaced both the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. After being replaced I still have the same situation and the acceleration problem seems to be getting worse. The engine starts up fine without any hesitation and idles without a struggle. But, when I put the vehicle in gear and drive away the engine is so doggy and struggles to accelerate until the RPM attains about 2000 rpm. Hooked up a scanner to the ALDL and got readings for the O2 sensors voltage and both sides are showing readings on the up and downstream sensors. Wondering if I have a ECM that is bad or needs reprogrammed as the Automatic Fuel Management doesn't seem to be working. I have not seen the dash board indicate that the engine is only running on 4 cylinders when coasting downhill on the expressway. Whoever is reading this thread, I would appreciate your input on what may possibly be causing my engine to perform poorly while accelerating from a stop.

 

I'd check the fuel pressure. Remember that the DTCs usually have an associated fault tree that needs to be followed to determine the actual problem. Just because it say O2 sensor doesn't mean the sensor is bad. May be connection problem or voltage level.
