I haven't really researched, but I'd say such lifter failures occurred in less than 1 % of those engines, but that's still many vehicles. The biggest issue seemed to be that GM couldn't get repair parts to do the fixes, would only repair one bank of the engine instead of doing both, wouldn't supply loaner vehicles, stuff like that.

What is the best plug in AFM eliminator? I have a 2007 5.3L 4WD Tahoe (no trailer hauling and no 4WD use) with 240K miles and no issues yet. I bought it at 150K and have been running Mobile 1 and changing the oil every 5K miles. This is my daughters truck and it is mostly in city driving. I don't drive it much so I don't know how often it goes into 4 cyl. mode. Thanks.

I have had a Range unit in my '11 5.3 since I got the truck at 35k miles. Now at 150k miles, no issues. It goes into V4 mode whenever it's in a light throttle cruise on flat terrain.
With dash in MPG mode you should see the V4 - V8 switching, at least my '11 shows it in real time MPG and other MPG screens.

I usually buy my cars and drive around 12,000-15,000 per year. I keep my cars around 7 years and then sell them

Also what is the best engine to buy 5.3/6.2/5.3 in terms of reliability ?

Thanks
I bought 2022 Suburban with 5.3L engine in August. In Shop for an engine replacement at 80k. Don't buy the new generation model. I change oil religiously every 2000 -2500 miles plus every 1000 miles I had to top off with a quart oil. Highly disappointed with Chevrolet..

We just went over 100K miles on our 2014 Yukon 6.2 engine with AFM; vehicle purchased in late 2022. I installed a clone AFM disabler module to keep it V8 full time. Since this vehicle has not been in to the trusted ASE mechanic yet, I haven't had opportunity to ask his thoughts on this. Mrs. Cusser needs the 6.2 engine to tow a horse trailer and two horses, I just didn't trust GM's claims that the 5.3 liter engine has more power than the 5.7 liter engine it replaced, which was marginal for her use.

I also installed a Four Seasons Deslugger module for the AC compressor, GM mounted the compressor too low on the engine, and oil accumulates in the compressor.
