Default Power seat front and back vertical adjust inop

I just got a 2011 Yukon XL SLT with the leather power seats. The driver's seat vertical adjust does not work for either the front or rear of the seat. When I first tried it, the seat clicks like a relay closing for both up and down, on both the front and rear adjustment. Now the front has a motor rotating sound, but the seat does not change position. The rear sometimes just clicks, other times will make the motor turn but no seat motion. The horizontal, lumbar and seat back angle adjustments all work fine, as do all the adjustments on the passenger side. Seems that maybe the mechanism is jammed and a coupling or something has let loose allowing the motor to turn without driving the seat. Are component parts available, or is this a must replace the whole seat deal?
I imagine I need to remove the seat and look at it, however any advice or anecdotes regarding similar problems would be greatly appreciated. I'm also unsure how to get at the motors/mechanism, or even how to remove the seat from the tracks. Thanks in advance.

Hi Yukon_Ray,

Have you brought this to your dealership's attention? They may have a possible resolution! If you need any assistance with this further, feel free to let us know. We would be happy to look into this, and communicate with the dealership on your behalf. Just send a private message our way along with your VIN, current mileage, contact information and preferred dealership.

Thanks for the reply, Patsy. It's a 2011 with 81,800 miles on it, so I believe it is out of warranty for other than power train(is this true?). I bought it used, from a small used car lot with no warranty other than power train. As such, I'd rather avoid an expensive dealer repair if possible. I will ask the local GMC-buick dealer about it when I take it in next week for a few recall items (transmission dipstick tube is cracked, airbags and ignition recalls).

On another note, my mechanic noted that the trans dipstick tube is cracked. I asked Paul Masse GMC-Buick in South Kingston, RI about scheduling recall service on the dipstick tube. They told me the dipstick recall had already been done on the vehicle (there is no foam damper on the tube, so I doubt it), and that there are no current recalls on the vehicle. An internet search indicates there are 3 safety recalls, and there is no indication in Carfax or in the vehicle records that these have been completed:
Recall ID # 79152 - SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:SPINDLE;
Recall ID # 76227 - STEERING:LINKAGES;
Recall ID # 107874 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION;
How can I find out if GMC has a record of these being done, and if not, can I still get the first two taken care of since they are older recalls? The last one is recent (Dec 2014), and I am quite sure it has not been done. The VIN is 1GKS2KE32BR161390

Hey there,

Not a problem! We can definitely confirm your warranty and any possible open recalls associated to your vehicle if you send us a private message along with your VIN. This will allow us to look into this more without you having to discuss your personal information publicly. We look forward to hearing from you again soon!
