Prefer the 5.7 to 5.3
I have multiple vehicles with the 5.7. Know the motor inside and out.
7 months ago I purchased a used 2005 Chevy Suburban 1500 with the 5.3. Partially to blame is the lack of proper maintenance from previous owner obviously.
Yet I swear everything that keeps going wrong is definatly frustrating me.
I know the differences and decided upgrades the 5.3 is supposed to have improved.
Someone convince me this 5.3 is a decent engine.

The 2000-2006 5.3 motor was one of the best motors GM has ever made. Absolutely bulletproof. My buddy now owns my '01; it has 240k miles, is rusting away, but the engine is still perfect and purrs like a kitten.
I'll take a 5.3 over a 5.7 every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I have gotten 498,000 miles with my 5.7 in my 97 Chevy suburban, only ended up being done with vehicle after 2nd transmission.
My 2005 with 5.3 has 278,xxx miles and I have replaced so many parts on this thing. I am pretty sure I have intake gasket going out now. I just replaced water pump and of course went ahead and put new a.c. and serpitine belts on. I also had issues with fuel vent and replaced the solenoid and ended up blowing out charcoal canister with air.

I have a 93 5.7 with 350k, an 05 5.3 with 250, love them both; find the 5.3 to be a peppier motor. Things wear out with this mileage, it's a fact of life, regular maintenance usually makes that a less painful thing for me.
