Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default Purchase

I am a newbie and I am looking at buying a 2012 Suburban. This is would be my first Chevy car that I would own. I wanted to find out if this car has a good overall safety record and if 2012 was a good year for this car in terms of engine and related stuff. I did look at Kelley and it was rating 4 out of 5 for safety.

I wanted to get some basic info on this car and if there is anything further I need to know before I purchase it.

Welcome from Florida. Before you purchase see if there are any maintenance records for this truck. You can also do a Carfax to see if it was in any accidents. Even the best vehicle if not maintained well could cause a lot of trouble. A good visual inspection can tell a lot about a vehicle.

I cannot comment directly on a 2012 Suburban, but we sold our 2005 Yukon Denali in May 2021 at 235K miles and purchased a 2011 Yukon Denali in May at 73K miles. And Mrs. Cusser loves it.

I suggest having an independent ASE mechanic drive it, and give it an inspection, especially if it is from a rust area.

As far as safety the bigger vehicle always wins.
