Unless you purchased an extended warranty then probably not. The most GM offers off the lot is a 5yr./100,000 mile warranty (whichever comes first). Unfortunately, or are well over that on the years, so I suspect you are out of luck there.

My only suggestion I can offer you is to get a second opinion. It doesn't hurt to see what another shop might think the problem is, and what they will quote you on the fix. When you are paying this much money it is always a good idea to get it done right, but also get the work done as cheaply (money wise) as possible.

My first question is how well do you know this shop your at, and do you get work done there often? The reason I ask is because sometimes when you have good relationships with shops (especially small town mechanics) they will take good care of you, and will give you a good deal on the fix. The other reason I mention it is because no one wants to be "taken for a ride" (no pun intended) when it comes to fixing things on a car, and paying a "boat load" of money in the process. - Just my two cents on the subject at hand.

Sorry about your predicament, but it happens to the best of us Good luck!!

Well as long as you feel comfortable that's all that matters. The only reason I asked is because I don't like seeing anyone being taken advantage of by some random auto shop (if you know what I mean). Sometimes we just have to pay more for the better service, and the knowledge that it will be done right.

One thing we have done at our local mechanic is to offer to pay in increments - like a credit card (monthly payment). That has especially helped when several of our vehicles have all been in to have work done on them. Maybe that is something you could ask about if you can't get all of the money up front, or the repair cost really sets you back.

Cars are great when they are payed off and work, but those repair bills can really bite you in the a$$
