Default radio size 2000 tahoe

I measured the factory radio and its 4x8". I read that 1 DIN is 2" so I think I need to replace it with a double DIN radio. But I'm noticing that places like crutfield are reccomending 1.5 DIN so now I'm now sure if double DIN is too large or if 1.5 DIN is just more popular. I'm looking for a radio that has built in sirius satellite radio. Also, if you know if there's a factory mod (like a newer model radio) that would fit into my tahoe(w/ sirius) that would be even better.

thanks

Here's what I've learned when dealing with car stereo shops. Bypass the floor salesmen (who have a high turnover) and talk toa veteran installer in the back. They are a wealth of knowledge of what fits and what doesn't. I've found they know the specs better than the floor guys.

The opening you have is 1.5 or 1 1/2 Din opening( 3 inch). The only radios that will fit without modification would be 1 din(2 inch) or 1.5 din (3 inch) radios. A 1 din radio will fit with a radio kit. A 1.5 din will fit without a kit.

A 2 din or Double din(4 inch) radio won't fit unless you modify the dash. Its possible to use the trim from a 03-06 Silverado or Tahoe so you can use a aftermarket, Double din radio. It will require you to lower the a/c controls slightly in order to have everything fit nicely. If you look on the web, you can examples of this.
