raise seet
Is it possible to raise the driver seat of a 2005 chevy suburban?
First, I looked at possibility of shimming up the seat cushion. That requires also raising the seat back. Can't figure out how to do that. There's a bolt on the outboard side of the seat back; no problem removing that. But on the inboard side there is no such bolt, and it looks like a nightmare to get to the mechanism just to see what to do. (cloth upholstery is the problem.)
Second, I looked at possibility of raising the entire seat, where it bolts to the floor. The front set of bolts - no problem removing the outboard bolt. It could be replaced with a longer bolt to accommodate the increase in height from a thick wood shim placed between floor and seat rail. BUT the front inboard bolt has the head concealed under NON-removable structure on the underneath side of the floorboard. You'd literally need to take a cutting torch to the underneath structure to get at that bolt head.
Sooooo....has anyone succeeded in raising a driver seat and how did you do it?

Thank you for your reply, and especially for the video. To clarify my situation - I would have no problem actually removing the seat, just as shown in the video. The problem is to REPLACE the existing inboard bolt (the one near the center console) with a LONGER bolt so that the seat could be shimmed up. This inboard bolt has the head concealed by a structural member on the underneath side of the floor. You can't even see or access the bolt head. It is concealed. Looking at the video you can see that bolt was never removed; only the nut was removed to allow removal of the seat. If I had a welder I could fabricate a special long nut to replace the factory nut, but alas I don't have a welder. I guess not many people want to raise their car seats, but I'm just too dang short. I've been using a throw cushion to raise me about an inch or so and that works, but isn't very elegant, lol.
Thanks for your suggestion. It worked!
