Ratio Difference/Reduction
#12
My grey hair is blocking my mind's eye again, but...
I remember somewhere, where someone was trying to come up with a Variable Pitch Transmission. Not in Torque Converter application, but it was something like a conical gear set, where they would slip back and forth, which would allow a vast range of gear ratios, and literally no "bump" from the changing.
Have you herd/read anything about that ?
PS:
They've done this with Compression Pulleys and Belts on some Electric Motor driven equipment.

Cvt
you mean a CVT?
they use them in 4-wheelers and cheap cars.
Continuously variable transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
all of it's moot. the solution is obvious:
Tesla Motors | Premium Electric Vehicles
Check out the Model X.

Model X
yea; the Model S won car of the year.
not electric car of the year
not American car of the year.
CAR of the year.
Check out the 0-60 times.
Electric cars can run on anything. Gas, oil, natural gas, nuke, hydro, solar, wind.
And, if you've ever seen the line of cars and ticked off people at a crowded gas station... you'd never have to see them again. 'fill up' any where that has power.
they pushed back the model X another year, shame because I really wanted to drive one.
If it tows at least 3500, I will be very interested in it.

Agreed, there's some fantastic numbers related, and yes, there's a lot of electric outlets everywhere for a recharge. Still, the length of time it takes for that replenishment, continues to be an issue of concern. When that is addressed, internal combustion will only be a memory.
I hadn't even considered Towing, I bet that does burn up a lot of watts !

yea
I'm sure it does, but an electric motor has ONE moving part. A normal engine has hundreds! think of the waste.
Yea, the battery tech is lacking, but just as 'flat' TVs were $24,000 20 years ago, and are now $400... The same thing will happen with this tech. Better / Cheaper every day.
Once you can drive 400 miles on a charge, and 'refill' from a normal house in 60 min or less, where is the down side?
Check out "Tesla Super Chargers"
they charge at a very fast rate... and FREE.
how many gas stations are giving away free gas today, or ever?!!
