I have a 2007 LTZ with the 3.43 rear end. I have a 4200lb travel trailer and a few people told me I am going to have some trouble with it. I wonder how difficult it will be to find a 3.73 rear end and have it installed. Any guesses?

 

Should be OK with that combo.
If you want to swap ratios then just have shop replace the ring and pinion set.

 

I think I'll be OK too. Most of the guys that are telling me this have chevy HD and cummins blah blahs with stroker this and that's. They are just used to hauling like there's nothing back there. I just think mountains will be a little painful.

 

man you read my mind i just got mt ring and pinion in the mail today they are 4.56 richmond part# 69-0167-1 from summitracing.com i have the 4.10s on my other truck and they are nice but still didnt feel rite with overdrive tranny...this time im going to install 4.56 in my 2WD tahoe should pick up bit more low end..

How much did that set you back? Oh, and how much do you think it will cost to install? I am just wondering what affects this will have to the warranty.

I'd be interested to hear how this changed the bottom end your Tahoe. I've got an 07 and it's a tad weak off the line.

 

Did the 4.56's help with gas mileage?

 

If anything, a 4.56 will HURT gas mileage....forgetting the debate about 'sweet zone' for 4 cylinder mode, the higher the gear ratio, the more acceleration and the worse the fuel consumption. At higher speed, the higher gear ratio will be turning a couple hundred more RPM thus getting worse gas mileage. In the city, no doubt higher ratio will mean worse gas mileage...Another thing to consider...some higher ring and pinion combos 'whine'.....
