Just finished changing out the rear bearings. The stupid c clips have me more trouble than anything. Turns out you have to the hammer the axle in to get good access to the c clip. After that the other side was easy. Did the rear shocks while I was at it! Still making a humming revolution noise???? I can't figure this out for the life of me!!! Getting to the point where I might take it to a dealer or mechanic. Any ideas?? The only things I haven't changed are the u joints. Which are still original. But appear to be in good shape.

rear diff side bearings, pinion bearings or crownand pinion....all best left to a professional

I have had a rotational noise in my 07 Tahoe from day one since I purchased it. I had asked the dealer to look into it, and they replaced one of the wheel bearings, can't remember which one, but the noise was still there, and is still there to this day. I now have ~173K on it. To me it sounds like rubbing from the brake pads on the rotor but I don't think that is the cause. I can hear it at neighborhood speeds 20-30 mph, it is relative to the speed of the car, and is a rotational noise, and to hear it well the road much be pretty smooth. I wonder if our noises sound the same? I think if I try to record it, it wont come out very well. Not knowledgable about axles and such, can it be that my rear axle needs some lubing? Like I said I've never had an issue from the noise, but I always wonder what the hell it is when I drive it, lol. I've had the car since brand new in April of 2006.

doesn't matter where you go as long as they are qualified to rebuild a rear end. Find a shop to diagnose it first...who knows what it is at this point. authorize 1 hour diag time. if they can't locate the noise in that time you don't want them repairing your vehicle.

I would suggest Goggling "drivetrain" and that should give you a list of specialist in your area... not that any qualified mechanic couldn't do it but this will take you to those that do it for a living...

Thanks for all the replies. Haven't had much time to drive it. But I couldn't notice the noise last time I was in it. But I haven't got it on the highway yet. Could it be that it just needed fresh oil??? The oil was pretty dirty. I'll update once I get a chance to really run it.

ok its still doing it, just couldn't hear it at low speeds. so i'll be taking it to a "professional"

Update. Call me crazy but it's not making the noise anymore. No grinding or roughness when I take lefts on the highway. Just took a trip from west nester to rockland then down to New York City. No whirring/humming
