Step by step instructions for do-it-yourself repairs
Remote Start/Keyless Entry Install, 97 Tahoe
Hello,
I just finished installing a crimestopper RS3-G3 Remote Start and Keyless Entry System. I purchased it for about $50 on Amazon. It works as advertised. The installation instructions are detailed but not vehicle specific. I searched the interwebs and found a couple of different wiring diagrams specific to alarm/remote start installs. The best was located at alarmsellout.com and is a Triple S custom Product. It is located at
http://alarmsellout.com/support/diag...01995-2005.pdf
I had to purchase two relays from Radio Shack to be able to use the keyless entry function. The 97 Tahoe 4 doors has postive trigger door locks. Between the crimestopper instructions and the wiring diagram at alarmsellout, I was able to wire up the door locks pretty easily.
I did have a bit of trouble finding a suitable tachometer feed. I ended up using a white wire of the instrument cluster. There are two white wires, I used the wire on the left.
The system is fairly customizable, however, I am using it as a basic remote start with it tied into the keyless entry. One benefit is that it unlocks and locks the car from much farther away. I was having trouble with the stock keyless entry. I had replaced the batteries in the stock remotes but still had to be within 10 or 20 feet for it to work. Now, I can be in the house and lock the doors without having to go outside.
I used basic tools and supplies: Various screw drivers (flathead, phillips, and torx bits), various sockets, test light, pliers, wire cutters and strippers, soldering iron, drill and drill bits(to drill holes for led and control button), electrical tape, various wire connectors, 2 automotive relays.
It probably took me about 6 hours over a weekend to completely install. So far i am very satisfied with this product.
Thanks,
Buenos
