Default Remove front axles/Driveshaft?

Folks, I've got this clanking in the front end somewhere that is apparent as soon as i start driving. It is definitely in the front, I assumed it was probably the front hub bearings so I replaced those, then replaced the axles after the noise was still there. Either its the Carrier (probably those bearings) or the front drive shaft.

My question is, can I remove the front axles and driveshaft, essentially making it a 2WD rig for a month while I remove the front diff and rebuild it? I'd rather not have it grenade on me. I know I should be fine on the front axles, but will the front driveshaft cause a leak in the transfer case?

Thanks gents!

the front driveshaft does not turn in 2wd so if the noise is present in 2wd it can't be the front d-shaft.

no you can't drive with the front axles removed or your wheel bearings will be destroyed. the axle and hub nut tension the bearings.
