Default Removing outer door handle?

I'm at a loss. I finally got black replacement handles to replace the driver's and passenger's side front handles. I have the trim off of the passenger side, and have all the bolts out of the metal plate on the door. I have removed both screws (14mm bolts) from the handle itself, and it's now loose from the door.

Now how do I get it the rest of the way out? The lock cylinder fell in the process, but is still attached to some sort of rod (and I don't have a clue how to get that out now too.

Please help me before I mess something up. Am I missing something obvious?

try lifting the handle like you were opening the door. you'll have to hold the base of handle in place a bit. it's a pain, but should wiggle out.

I managed to get the old one out, but now I can't seem to get the new one in. Once I clip on the rods for the lock and handle, it just doesn't want to cooperate. I'm about to get mad.

been there before. it is seriously frustrating. fought with my 97 truck couple days tryin to get door handle back in. ended up taking rod off lock plate so it's just hanging off door handle, same with rod off lock cylinder, got handle into door, put rod back into lock plate before bolting handle in. gumby fingers, long screwdrivers, and long needle nose pliers. a pain, but got it
