Default Repair-new motor-or dump it ?

My 5.3 LY5 CI in my wifes 07 suburban with AFM started useing a quart of oil about every 1500 to 2K miles at around 82K on the clock. Read up on the cause and decided not to go down the warrantee road with all the hoops. I've been adding oil with no real issues. Replaced a coil pack on #6 and new plugs/wires last Nov. Last weekend I ran out of luck with 125k on the Burb. Going out of town on vacation and the Stabilatrack went nuts, followed by a low oil warning and engine skip. Oil level was good. Onstar showed a cylinder misfire code and a check stabilatrack code. Drove it to the mechanic and he tore into it. #6 lifter is bad. #5 on the opposite side is not working ( Probably as result). I read that the LY5 is not worth repairing; Just get a GM rebuilt long block with the updates and move on. Torn,...I'm gonna get rid of it regardless. Ready for something with 30 MPG. Thought about tying to sell it as is with the motor torn into but would probly take a bath to move it like that. Wife pamperd it and garage kept. I could put 5k in the new motor but would I get some back on the sale? Any feed back is appreceated.

Depending on what trim package and how well it is equipped you could still sell it for over 20k after you put a motor it.

I'm leaning twords the new motor. The local GM dealer keeps about 3 long blocks on the shelf if that says anything about fixing the old first run 5.3's with Active fuel management. Thanks for the replys.

Default Update

I tried to sell it but all I got was cash slinging low ballers with accents. Best offer was 13k. Decided to get my dealer to quote me on a patch job to repair the lifters and maybe get 16K. Too my suprise, the dealer I have used for service got GM to front the cost with a 500 deductable. When they tore into the motor it was too far gone. Ended up putting in a GM rebuilt long block . I wen't ahead and did a few other things. New battery, tire sensor, fuel sensor, evap valve. I got out of there under 1500 thanks to GM. This was # 9 of 10 GM vehicles I have owned in the last 28 years but was to be my last with the motor failure and all. I'm glad they came through for me so I can stay on board. Now if they will just put a small turbo diesel in a 1/2 ton truck!
